MATH INTERVENTIONIST, Grades K-5

I grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. In 2008, I moved to Colorado after graduating from the University of Kentucky (go CATS!) to attend graduate school at CU Boulder. I taught in Aurora for 7 years before returning to North Carolina for my husband to attend school. We moved back to Colorado as soon as we could! This is my 12th year teaching, and second year at Howell. I am very excited to join this family and work closely with students in math.

MATH INTERVENTIONIST, Grades K-8

Hello, Montbello! Born and raised in the deep south, I’ve been living in Denver since 2002, teaching since 2007, and a member of the Howell family since 2011. I’ve been a paraprofessional, general education teacher, and special educator, and I am very excited to take on the role of interventionist which will allow me to focus on my favorite subject to teach – mathematics. At home, you’ll often find me spending time with my wife and three kids, gardening, or following the hobby for which I am most passionate – birding. Following the birds has taken me to remote locations and every corner of the state. As of 10/1/2021, I have been able to identify 395 different avian species within the boundaries of Colorado, but my goal is to eventually break 400! #birdnerd

Gifted and Talented Teacher

Hi Howell family! I am excited to serve the G/T and advanced learners at Howell.  I’m a Colorado native! I grew up in Lakewood and graduated from Lakewood High. I attended CU Denver where I obtained my under graduate degree in Communication.  After graduating, I worked for an Advertising agency doing public relations/marketing. I knew very quickly that this wasn’t the job for me and that my life’s calling was teaching. I went back to school to receive my teaching degree and Masters of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction.  I entered the profession eager to make a difference.  I have been teaching in DPS for over 17 years with the last 7 (going on 8) of those being G/T!  I have three children of my own.  My goal each day is to arouse and stimulate the curiosity and interest in all learners!

After living in Arizona after graduation, he decided to move back to Omaha to pursue a communications degree from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. After some time in the world of advertising, his soon-to-be wife heard the mountains calling her home (Castle Rock native) and they made the move to Denver. He received his teaching licensure from Metropolitan State University-Denver and has been a part of DPS since 2019. He enjoys camping, concerts, sports (Go Huskers!), and spending time with his wife and two cats.

Math Intervention Teacher, Grades 4-8

Hello Howell Family! I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area before moving to Colorado for high school. After graduating from CSU, I worked as an Actuary in the Bay Area. As time went by, I found myself being pulled to do work that more directly served my community and contributed to reducing the opportunity gap. I strongly believe all students can be successful in math, and by doing so, ensure it doesn’t become a barrier to their future success. I love the challenge and thrill of helping math truly make sense to all learners. When I’m not working you’ll find me outdoors either hiking, gardening, or enjoying my favorite hobby – birding. It’s still astounding to me how many different and beautiful birds live around us if we just look. I’ve seen a total of 368 different species of birds in Colorado (as of February 2022).

Hi, Family! This will be my fifth year at Howell.
